Last Friday, SEACOMP team members spent their day at the Feeding San Diego headquarters and warehouse donating both their time and efforts. Feeding San Diego, a Feeding America affiliate, fights hunger within the San Diego community through programs that provide an immediate need and make a long-term impact. Through their community support and organizational efforts, Feeding San Diego is able to provide four meals for every dollar donated.

Our team members spent their time focused on packing backpacks with food and gleaning produce.

Did you know 1 in 6 kids don’t know where their next meal is coming from? Through Feeding San Diego’s BackPack program, children receive a bag of nutritious food from their school on Friday afternoons so that their family can have food over the weekend. SEACOMP helped pack 140 bags for that program. Each bag contained 4 lbs. of potatoes, a package of pasta, and a package of oats.

SEACOMP also spent a portion of the day gleaning produce – sorting through giant pallets of fruits and vegetables and separating out the spoiled products. The team gave a huge effort and gleaned a total of 1,800 lbs. of plums, 600 lbs. of butternut squash, and 250 lbs. of red onions!!

Team members were really proud of their contribution to Feeding San Diego and the impact that it will have on the local community. To learn more about Feeding San Diego, or to make a tax-deductible donation, visit their website at feedingsandiego.org.
